Mountain District Update
Driving through the Mountain District one can’t help but notice the beauty of Spring. Early flowers like daffodils & tulips, flowering trees such as pears and red buds bless us with new colors and hope of things to come.
So it is with our Mountain District Membership as we look to the new committee restructuring of VPTA. Allow me to “Plant some seeds” for you to volunteer. There are several new job openings with small to medium time commitments that have a great IMPACT on how our district grows. Some jobs are brief monthly commitments & others are once yearly events (as follows):
District PT Month Task Force: Assist the District Chair and Director to Coordinate and plan a district & state-wide “Anything that Moves Your Forwards” event October 23rd.
District Legislative Liaisons (Open position for more than one person): Ever hear about health-care reform or Term Protection and have contacted your representative to express an opinion? Do you know any of our State Legislators? Upcoming elections are a great time to contact your legislators and we need more volunteers in this area.
District Continuing Education Chair: Great opportunity to get involved as our current Chair Kim Slemp, PT will mentor you into this position. Help plan with state wide contacts and organize CE events for our district. Upcoming event planed for November “CI Credentialing Course”.
Host a District Meeting: Our 2011 Calendar is starting to fill up. Contact District Chair Wil Kolb, PT, CWS at
wkolb12@gmail.com if you would like to sponsor a event.
Reminder also that Mountain District Chair and Treasure positions are up for election this year. Both are two year terms.
Additional meeting plans for 2010 include: May 18th joint Mountain-Valley District meeting at Radford University Featuring Delegate Dave Nutter. September Mountain District meeting at Wytheville Community College being broadcast on the web to three other satellite campus locations. November 2nd meeting will be hosted by Function Better Therapy and Chuck Williams, PT.
Special thanks to Barret Blevins, PT, DPT for hosting our last district meeting at Johnson Memorial Outpatient. A top Quality presentation on Shoulder Surgery and Rehabilitation with open discussion was provided by Orthopedist Dr. Daniel Miliam.
